Hollow Grove
William Linford
William (Bill) Linford Artist
William (Bill) Linford has created a diverse body of work over his lifetime as an artist. Recurrent themes are often representative of his own life experiences and interests.
This current collection, Hollow Grove, has been several years in the making. When questioned about its origins, William notes a deep need within him to document and at times to confront the kaleidoscope of positive and negative memories and emotions that he has experienced as a political observer and participant in turbulent times associated with government restructuring.
At times, the subject matter will be clearly obvious but there will also be subtle references embedded subliminally within each piece.

In this latest series, William has challenged himself to complete a large-scale canvas as the centerpiece. ‘The Landing’ sets the scene with an interconnected and complex community being represented as the backdrop for the diverse characters and scenes that emerge more fully in the other works.

Each piece is crafted in his unique and distinct style. The use of blue Morpho butterflies and a profusion of mushrooms within many of the pieces symbolizes the constant interplay of positive and negative energy that is always present in times of upheaval.

William has been developing his skills, working with oil on canvas, for over 40 years. His success has been recognized by numerous awards. He has been invited to participate in many group and solo exhibitions and his works can be found in local, national and international collections.

William has resided and painted in his coastal, Ocean Grove home studio for the past 35 years. Since directing his energies into full-time painting in 2006, his output has been prolific as he strives to hone his skills. He often notes how fortunate he is to have found such a rewarding artistic passion and he never tires from experimenting with the painting process.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT:

I have found that working on this series has been quite cathartic. I have particularly enjoyed working on a larger scale and have found that I need to be reminded to take breaks as I often become so engrossed in the process that time vanishes without notice.

As always, I am appreciative of the family support I have been given throughout the development of this exhibition.
The unique décor and environs of the Royal Hotel provides a stunning backdrop for this exhibition. I am indebted to Kat and her team for their professionalism and encouragement.
