Over the years, she bore many names—Leihy’s Hotel, Leihy’s Royal Hotel, and The Royal Hotel—yet she has always been affectionately known as simply, The Royal. In 1968, she briefly surrendered her licence, and locals gathered in anticipation of a farewell, yet her story was far from over.
In 1986 The Royal was relicensed restoring her to her former glory

From the moment we arrived, we were completely blown away. The rooms were impeccable—spotlessly clean, beautifully styled, and full of old-world charm that’s been lovingly preserved. Our room opened onto a gorgeous veranda, perfect for soaking in the seaside air with a coffee or wine in hand.
If you’re after charm, authenticity, and pure relaxation, The Royal Hotel Queenscliff is it. You won’t be disappointed—we’re already planning our return.
We stayed at The Royal Queenscliff in one of their fully renovated rooms for two nights for our Wedding Anniversary… The room was stunning – beautifully decorated, comfy bed, brand new bathroom… Balcony access with views of the bay was a bonus. Kat went above and beyond… made us feel so welcome. We also visited the cocktail bar downstairs… great vibe and honestly, the best cocktails. Thank you, Kat – your place is beautiful… we’ll definitely be back.
This is the wedding venue of your dreams…. We got married here last night in the amazing Chandelier Room as well as being able to have photos taken all around the huge venue…. There is a special area to suit every guest so make sure you visit for a cocktail when you’re in Queenscliff. Thank you to Katalin and all her friendly and professional staff.

Amazing place, with awesome architecture and it’s been returned or refurbished back to its original glory. Been done very well, beautiful people with an amazing atmosphere not to mention the talented artists. Would definitely recommend going in and having a look.
We had a fabulous time at The Royal, cocktails were absolutely delightful and the staff were so so lovely – we only wish they were open on Sundays so we could go again before the weekend is over! A really incredible space brought to life by the wonderful staff.
